Last Thursday, the Holland Casino organized a special night to ask the Dutchies to dress up a bit more when they go out. Dutch people are famous for ignoring dresscodes and showing up in their jeans at black tie events, I’m not even kidding. I think it’s a pity and I personally love to get dressed up for a night out or for drinks/dinner with friends. It’s fun to make that special kind of effort every now and then and I think more people should actually do it. I mean, where’s the heels in Amsterdam?

Ik snap precies wat je bedoelt, ik erger me daar ook zo erg aan. Mensen maken je eigenlijk een beetje belachelijk als je uitgaat in je mooiste jurkje met je hoogste schoentjes. Is toch leuk, juist omdat het niet elke dag kan?

Same problem here in Greece..
Except that we (=the Greeks) are not dressing up a little in our everyday life.. If someone is dressed up during the day, gets all the annoying gazes.. They are staring like you did something wrong.. And when comes the night everybody puts heels on, but that’s it.. No furs, no hats, no unusual shoes..

I completely agree. I’m from the UK and have lived in Holland for 10 years, and I am ALWAYS overdressed. Even parties with a dress code get ignored. Plus, I am always the one hobbling along the cobblestones in the middle of Amsterdam in my stiletto’s…but hey, fashion is pain! Don’t let it stop you from feeling fantastic – you look gorgeous.

Gorgeous dress, love the back detail. I agree with your comments and think it is great you actually do dress up. As I am not from here before I discovered blogging I really though no one knew about heels and pretty dresses in this country. I even had a phase where I became “dutch” but I am glad to be back into heels and dresses no matter how terrible the streets are in Amsterdam and disgusting the weather is. I am also glad to see some great Dutch bloggers like yourself to prove me wrong ;)
Ive the same problem when Im going to Belgium to see my family. Nobody dress up nice to going out!!!
So all the time people look at me like if Im crazy, to posh or sometimes like if Im an escort girl!!!! Girls are often jealous!
In Monaco where Im leaving is the opposite, we dress up short, full of color, with high heels with nice haircut!!! A little more like London! ;-)
