JIMMY CHOO

There is a new shoe heaven in town, Jimmy Choo just opened the doors of their very first store in The Netherlands. The minute I walked in I was smitten by these loafers that came in a black studded version – my favorite – but also in a nicely done leopard print and completely covered in blue glitters. Ofcourse I had to try them on (though I did not bring them home) and they were super comfy! They were still carrying lots of boxes in during the opening, I guess that means there is lots of more shoe goodness to come.

LAND

When blogger Ivania Carpio from Love Aesthetics invites you to have a look at the atelier from the label she is working for, you know it is going to be good. LAND is accommodated in an old elementary school in the center of Amsterdam, a place where Linda Erkens -other than other designers- gets inspired by nothing. LAND consists of a strong, archetypal core collection of 11 pieces. Each and every season a max of 11 pieces constructed from the same pattern of the core collection, but executed differently in another fabric or color, are added.

Every season -twice a year- the label expands their ever growing collection, which means the items are not bound to seasons and will be available to order throughout the years.

Trends are not to be followed at LAND and it is more about technical details. A shirt is a shirt, in its simplest form, but always with a small twist.

As much as I love to follow the paths more well-known designers take with trends and all, I can get very much intrigued by new labels trying to establish themselves in this world of ever-changing fashion -this time without even following any trend.

QUEENSDAY

Queensday in Amsterdam is the only day we are allowed to sell our stuff on the streets. I decided to organize a super tiny Closet Affair with my two girls Caroline and Margot and give it a try. We got up at 4am to make sure we would be ready for the first customers that usually start bargain hunting around 5am. We had so much fun betting -while not being completely awake- on items that would go first and strangely never got sold.

All items that I did not sell are going to a good cause. See you next year?

Rika has to be one of my favorite stops in Amsterdam. To be able to view the collection before it hits the shelves is a privilege, but at the same time a pain in the bum (or need I say wallet?). It makes you splurge on items in your head before you even have the money to splurge with.

The little piercing that goes through their fuzzy jumpers, not to mention the buttery soft leather jackets, oh dear…

VOGUE FEVER

For weeks now, it’s the only thing the Dutch fashion crowd has been talking about: Dutch Vogue. What will the cover look like? Which model(s) are going to be on it? Is our country even ready for a magazine like this?

This afternoon, Karin Swerink (editor in chief) and her team presented the very first issue of Dutch Vogue at a press lunch in George W.P.A. and it is fab. Very fab! Gorgeous Romee Strijd, Ymre Stiekema and Josefien Rodermans – lensed by Marc de Groot – are on the cover, wearing Acne, Valentino and Chanel. I have to be honest, when I saw the cover circulating on the internet this morning, I thought the cover was a bit too young and girly (and pink!) but after seeing it in real life and holding it for a little while, it just seems to be perfect.

At the moment I am dealing with an extreme and severe cough, but I dragged myself out of bed for the press lunch and went straight back after. The timing of my cough is great though, I have more than enough time to flip through the pages and actually read this April issue.
