ON TINY EARRINGS

I remember as a little girl I used to dream about wearing big chunky earrings. When my mom finally decided to pierce my ears (she knows how to handle an ear piercer, so cool!) I was over the moon. It all started with two tiny little golden hoops in both ears and as I grew older, my earrings got bigger until I got to the point where I could have carried parrots in those giant hoops.

Then all of a sudden when I finished high school I lost interest in wearing earrings. At first it felt strange, kind of “bald” walking out the front door without them, but that only took a couple of weeks.

For years and years I haven’t worn any earring until I saw this brilliant Vogue cover that I just had to copy. Since then, I have been paying more attention to what others are wearing and I came to the conclusion that I have this huge appreciation for subtle earrings. I love how they can look like they are randomly put together and collected over the years and kind of add this “cool factor” to a girls attitude, despite the fact that they are so tiny.

I have recently added this one from Tom Binns that I found in my jewelry box to my left ear and I am currently looking for a cool safety pin one -a Rachel Rachel Roy one would be perfect (Genevieve Jones would be even better), though they do not seem to be sold in the Netherlands- and a super tiny hoop.

After not wearing many earrings for a couple of years -with an exception every now and then- I decided to copy the April issue of French Vogue and pierce an upside down cross through my ear (+ a tiny little red stud). I still have to decide what to do with the other ear, but I kind of like to leave it empty.
